Care & Cleaning

SwiftDeck Ipe wood Decking Tiles require very little maintenance to preserve their unique appearance. Cleaning is a simple matter of brushing with a stiff brush or washing with water.

In exposed exterior conditions however, the wood will gradually fade to a soft gray color, similar to any other hardwood timber, unless it is treated on a regular basis with a suitable decking oil/sealant.

To help preserve the attractive brown color of the timber as long as possible and to provide some additional waterproofing, we recommend an initial application of a good quality decking oil or decking sealer with a soft cloth, brush or spray followed by applications every 6-12 months (depending on climatic conditions).

Whilst we don't normally provide specific recommendations on products to use as we haven't evaluated the full range of products available on the market, we strongly recommend using one of the more specialized products which have UV inhibitors and/or transparent iron oxides  included and a high solids content rather than simple oil and turpentine-based products. Such products should give better resistance to fading of the wood color and enable longer periods between applications of the decking oil.

Products including the following could be considered:

PPG Olympic Maximum
Flood CWF-UV Penetrating Oil Finish
Penofin Penetrating Oil Finish
Behr Weatherproofing Wood Sealer
Thompson's Water Seal
Messmers's UV Plus for Hardwood Decks
Defy -Deck Stain for Hardwoods
